Royals Show Grit in Hard-Fought Loss to No. 14 Ave Maria
Waleska, GA – The Johnson University men's basketball team closed out its weekend in Tennessee with a strong showing against nationally ranked No. 14 Ave Maria University, falling 89–82 in a fast-paced, high-scoring matchup on Sunday afternoon.
The Royals stayed within striking distance throughout the contest, trailing by just six at halftime and matching the Gyrenes nearly point-for-point in the second half. Johnson shot 45.2% from the field and grabbed 34 rebounds, continuing to show offensive balance and resilience against top-tier competition.
Senior forward Mason Lockhart led the way with a dominant 25-point, 11-rebound double-double, shooting an efficient 11-of-15 from the floor. Ja'Kobe Strozier and Livingston Cross each added 13 points, with Cross also collecting 7 rebounds and 2 steals off the bench.
Jahmar Brown provided 12 points on 3-of-7 shooting from deep, while Caden Windle contributed 7 points and 6 rebounds in a well-rounded performance. Ben Underwood chipped in 6 points on perfect shooting from beyond the arc.
Despite Johnson's strong effort, Ave Maria's balanced attack and hot shooting from the line (20-for-24) proved to be the difference down the stretch.
"Great effort tonight. We're right there," said Head Coach Logan Sharp.
The Royals (0–3) will look to carry their momentum into next week as they continue non-conference play.
