Royals Cruise Past Bluefield, 93–61, in Home Conference Win
The Johnson men's basketball team turned in a dominant performance Wednesday night, rolling past Bluefield (VA) 93–61 at Douglas E. Karnes Arena.
Johnson came out firing on the offensive end, building a 48–26 lead by halftime behind efficient shooting and strong ball movement. The Royals shot 50 percent from the field in the opening half and controlled the tempo from the opening tip.
The Royals continued to pour it on after the break, outscoring Bluefield 45–35 in the second half to put the game away. Johnson finished the night shooting 50.0 percent from the floor and totaled 21 assists on 38 made field goals.
Mason Lockhart led all scorers for Johnson with 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting, while Jahmar Brown added 11 points and dished out eight assists. Davon Cottle also finished with 11 points, and Dallas Carbaugh chipped in 12 points and five rebounds.
Johnson's depth proved to be a key factor, as Livingston Cross posted 11 points and 11 rebounds off the bench for a double-double. Tucker Patterson added seven points, and Logan Roberts contributed six points and five boards.
Defensively, the Royals forced 21 Bluefield turnovers and recorded 13 steals, consistently turning defense into offense. Johnson also held a 45–32 rebounding advantage in the contest.
With the victory, the Royals improve to 6–11 overall and 6–4 in conference play.
