The Royals picked up a key conference win Wednesday night, defeating Spartanburg Methodist 95-84 inside Bridges Arena in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Johnson (14-13, 13-6 AAC) used a balanced offensive attack and efficient shooting to secure the victory, shooting 54.7 percent from the field and 41.7 percent from three-point range. The Royals led 42-35 at halftime before pouring in 53 second-half points to seal the win.
Five Royals scored in double figures, led by Livingston Cross with 17 points and eight rebounds. Jahmar Brown added 16 points and three assists, while Ja'Kobe Strozier finished with 14 points and eight rebounds.
Mason Lockhart chipped in 13 points and eight boards, and Caden Windle provided a spark off the bench with 15 points, knocking down three three-pointers. Tucker Patterson was perfect from beyond the arc, going 3-for-3 and finishing with nine points in 15 minutes.
Johnson controlled the glass with a 41-27 rebounding advantage and limited turnovers to just 11. The Royals also converted 15-of-20 from the free-throw line (75 percent).
Spartanburg Methodist (6-21, 4-15 AAC) was led by CJ Terrell's 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Kelton Teasley added 13 points.
With the win, the Royals will face Ohio Christian on Saturday, February 21st at 2:00pm.
