Men's Recap vs. IUSE Recap
The Johnson men's tennis team got off to a strong start sweeping away their competition from IU Southeast on Saturday.
The royals were initially pushed in their doubles point as the top two courts were split. After dropping the match at the second doubles position, freshman Lennart Kleeberg and sophomore Emanuel Casco secured a solid 6-3 win. All eyes then turned to the deciding 3rd court to see who would secure the doubles point. Despite a comeback attempt by the Grenadiers, the pair of Royals Juniors, Miguel Sanchez Loo and Benjamin Barrios, finished the match off to win 6-4.
From there the singles matches would be heavily dominated by the Royals. Barrios was first off the court at the 3 position, only dropping 1 game. In similar fashion, Sanchez Loo would win at spot #4 only dropping 1 game while sophomore Gabor Szabo didn't drop any games across the two sets. Kleeberg would continue the winning ways at the number 1 position 6-2, 6-1 while Casco would take his match 6-2, 6-4. The final win of the day came from sophomore Levi Lubbers at the 6 spot 6-2, 6-0.
Overall, coach Hale was very happy with the result, "We came out and got an early break on courts 1 and 3 and then were able to just hold it out on both courts to get the doubles point. But with that momentum, our singles didn't let up and kept the gas going from spots 1-6. I'm really proud of our focus and execution through all of singles to get the first sweep of the season."
The Royals are back in action this Wednesday as they travel to Emory and Henry.
