The Johnson softball team picked up a pair of wins on Friday afternoon, sweeping Montreat in a home doubleheader with two 6–1 victories.
In the first game, the Royals struck early and never looked back. Johnson opened the scoring in the first inning when Megan Armstrong delivered an RBI single to bring home the game's first run. Montreat tied the game in the fourth, but Johnson quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning.
Kadie Presley drove in a run with an RBI single before the Royals added two more runs in the frame to take control. Johnson later extended its lead in the sixth inning when Armstrong came through again with a two-RBI single. Armstrong finished the game with three hits and three RBIs to lead the Royals offensively.
In the circle, Madisun Pritchard earned the win after pitching 4.1 innings and allowing just one run. Alyssa Nicely came on in relief and closed out the game with 2.2 scoreless innings.
Johnson carried that momentum into game two, scoring six runs in the second inning to take an early lead. Caitlyn Brown drew an RBI walk before Kadie Presley added a sacrifice fly to extend the advantage.
The biggest hit of the inning came from Madison Hood, who launched a three-run home run to put the Royals firmly in control. Johnson added another run in the inning to cap the six-run frame.
In the circle, Lindy Webber tossed a complete game, allowing just one run on five hits while striking out six to secure the doubleheader sweep.
The Lady Royals return to action tomorrow, March 7 at 12 p.m., when they host Milligan.
