Lady Royals Advance with 3-2 Tournament Victory Over Tennessee Southern
The Lady Royals opened postseason play with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Tennessee Southern on Monday afternoon at Sparks Park in Columbia, Kentucky.
Johnson broke through in the fourth inning after a scoreless start to the game. Aly Dickerson opened the rally and later scored on a double to center field by Dylan Jablonski to give the Lady Royals a 1-0 lead. Moments later, Reese Burns delivered an RBI single to left center that brought home Jablonski and extended the advantage to 2-0.
Tennessee Southern answered in the bottom of the fifth when Alaina Grace King launched a two-run home run to center field, tying the game at 2-2.
The Lady Royals responded with the game-winning run in the top of the seventh. Kadie Presley came around to score on an RBI groundout from Adelaide Hubbard, putting Johnson back in front 3-2.
Madisun Pritchard picked up the win in relief, tossing two scoreless innings while allowing just two hits. Lindy Webber started the contest and struck out five across five innings of work.
Johnson totaled seven hits in the victory, led by two-hit performances from Audrey Moorhouse and Adelaide Hubbard. Jablonski added a double and RBI, while Burns also drove in a run.
The Lady Royals return to action tonight at 5 p.m. Central Time as they face #1 seed Lindsey Wilson College in the next round of tournament play.
