Lady Royals Fall in Regular Season Finale, Earn No. 6 Seed in Conference Tournament
The Lady Royals closed out the regular season Sunday afternoon with a narrow 52-51 loss at Union Commonwealth in a hard-fought battle at Robsion Arena. Despite the setback, Johnson finishes conference play at 10-10 and will enter the postseason as the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament.
Johnson (11-15, 10-10) started strong, taking a 15-11 lead after the first quarter. Union Commonwealth answered with a 23-point second quarter to take a 34-24 advantage into halftime. The Lady Royals responded in the third, outscoring Union 18-8 to regain momentum and set up a tight fourth quarter.
In the final period, both teams traded baskets down the stretch, but Union Commonwealth was able to edge ahead late to secure the one-point victory.
Emery Tollett led the Lady Royals with 14 points and 10 rebounds, recording a double-double while adding three steals and three assists. Gibson Boykin provided eight points off the bench, while Olivia Bolduc and Megan Biliter each added six points. Shamiya Francis chipped in five points and seven rebounds in the effort.
Johnson shot 36.7 percent from the floor and outrebounded Union Commonwealth 34-28, including 10 offensive boards. The Lady Royals now turn their focus to postseason play as they prepare for the conference tournament as the No. 6 seed.
