West Point, GA- The Royals witnessed a challenging and exhilarating day of volleyball on August 23, 2025, at West Point, Ga. In a doubleheader event, the Royals team faced off against Cumberland and Point, demonstrating resilience and strategic prowess across all sets.
The day started against Cumberland, where the Royals overcame a poor start, losing the first two sets 20-25 and 16-25. However, they quickly turned the momentum around in the next three sets. The Johnson team rallied to win 25-16, 25-22, and clinched the final set at 15-13 to secure an overall match victory by 3-2. Top players such as Abigail Brown, with 19 kills and a block, significantly contributed to the win.
The second matchup against Point proved to be equally intense but ended in a narrow defeat for the Royals, with scores of 25-23, 18-25, 25-19, 15-25, and 15-17. Despite the loss, the Royals displayed commendable performance and were led by impressive plays from Makiyah Greenlee and the defensive efforts from Hannah Lukey, who had a total of 10 digs.
Significant contributions came from multiple team members. In terms of defense, Makiyah Greenlee led with 13 digs, while Mackenzie Collins added two aces to her four blocks. Offensively, the Royals were powered by consistent assists from Hannah Lukey and Caelyn Marshall.
Reflecting on the day's matches, Head Coach Robin Vannoy noted significant improvements, particularly praising Marissa McMahon for her standout performances. She remarked, "We saw a lot of improvement in both matches today. I was proud of the girls for not giving up and fighting to the end. Marissa probably had her best matches of the day in her career at Johnson."
