The Johnson University Royals volleyball team capped off a successful weekend on the road, earning two key wins in Kentucky to extend their season record to 14-3 (4-0 AAC).
Royals Rally Past Pikeville in Five Sets
In the morning matchup against Pikeville, the Royals found themselves down two sets early but mounted an impressive comeback to claim a 3-2 victory (15-25, 12-25, 25-19, 25-17, 15-11).
After a slow start, Johnson's offense came alive in the third set and carried momentum through the decisive fifth. Abigail Brown paced the attack with 13 kills, while Belle Jones and Luci Morris each added 12 and 9 kills respectively. Setter Caelyn Marshall was steady with 27 assists, and Marissa McMahon anchored the defense with 24 digs. In total, the Royals collected 96 digs and 56 kills in the match.
The turning point came in the fourth set when Johnson hit an impressive .528 as a team, led by Jones and Morris at the net. In the fifth, the Royals outlasted Pikeville's late push to seal the comeback.
Dominant Sweep at Alice Lloyd
Later that afternoon, Johnson carried its momentum into a commanding sweep over Alice Lloyd, winning in straight sets (25-11, 25-15, 25-13).
The Royals controlled the match from start to finish, hitting an efficient .322 overall while holding Alice Lloyd to a -.011 attack percentage. Brown again led the team with 11 kills, while Jones tallied 7 and Ariah Gourley chipped in 6. Hannah Lukey provided 6 kills, 13 assists, and 7 digs in a strong all-around effort.
Defensively, McMahon once again starred with 14 digs, while Mackenzie Collins added 6. The Royals also served tough, recording 7 aces as a team, three coming from Lukey.
Looking Ahead
With the weekend sweep, Johnson improved to 14-3 overall and remained unbeaten in conference play at 4-0. The Royals return to action next week as they continue AAC competition, aiming to build on their momentum and stay near the top of the standings.
