Coach Carter brings decades of experience as both a player and coach, with a resumé that spans the collegiate and high school levels. She was part of the inaugural Lady Vols softball staff from 1995–2001 when the University of Tennessee added softball as a varsity sport, after competing as an NJCAA All-American at Sacramento City College and playing collegiately at the University of Oklahoma from 1991–93. While at Oklahoma, she also served on the Student-Athlete Advisory Board. As a head coach at the high school level, Carter compiled an impressive 561–205 record and led her programs to three TSSAA State Championships.
At Johnson University, Carter continues to build a championship culture, earning AAC Coach of the Year honors in 2024 and leading the Royals to the AAC Tournament Championship in 2025. She and her husband, Tres, have been married since 1999 and are proud parents to three children, all with strong ties to JU. Son Ty is a JU graduate who competed in baseball and later served as a graduate assistant under Coach Serrano before becoming the pitching coach at Shawnee State.
