Coach Lawhon played high school basketball at Lenoir City High School, where he was an All District and All Region player. He also graduated Top 5 in LCHS basketball history in rebounds and blocked shots. Coach Lawhon then played collegiate at Hiwassee College and Atlanta Christian College (now Point University). 
 
Coach Lawhon is going into his 4th year as the Head Coach at Johnson University. The Women's Basketball program has seen unprecedented success under Lawhon in his 3 years where he is already the all time wins leader in Lady Royals history. Team wins have progressed every year as well as points per game and defensive standings. In year 3 the Lady Royals were crowned regular season Co-Champions of the Appalachian Athletic Conference & made the NAIA National Tournament, both firsts in program history with the AAC Championship being the first Conference championship in the NAIA era for any Johnson athletics team. The Lady Royals also received their 1st votes in the NAIA Top 25 polls during the 24-25 season, receiving votes in the polls for 3 weeks. While at JU, Lawhon has coached 5 AAC All Conference Team players, 3 AAC All Defensive Team players, 6 AAC All Freshman Team players, & 1 AAC Freshman Of The Year award winner. 
 
Pervious to JU, Lawhon was the Head Coach at Bryan College where he helped bring that program to be a perennial National Tournament and Nationally ranked program. In the 21-22 season his team was the only undefeated team during the regular season (29-0), top 3 scoring offenses in the NAIA, top 5 defenses in the NAIA, won the AAC regular season championship (24-0), top 3 team rebounding in the NAIA, made it to the NAIA National Tournament Sweet 16, & finished the season ranked #9 in Top 25 polls in the NAIA (32-2 record), while being named as the Appalachian Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. Coach Lawhon was the top Assistant Coach for both men's & women's teams at Bryan College for 8 seasons. Helped lead the women's team to its most successful stretch in school history. 80+ straight AAC regular season wins over 4 seasons, won 6 AAC championships, made 7 NAIA National Tournament appearances, coached 26 AAC All Conference players, 17 AAC All Freshman Team players, 3 Freshmen of the Year, 3 Players of the Year,  & numerous AAC All Academic players. 
 
Also, Coach Lawhon was the Director and Coach of the East Tennessee Rangers AAU program, where he coached numerous future college and professional players. He coached a high school team to a 2013 Runner-Up finish & 2014 National Championship in the USBA National Tournament. Coach Lawhon also coached at North Middle School in Lenoir City, TN where he helped lead the team to District Runner-Up, State Sectional berth, and a 19-4 record. Coach Lawhon has helped area high school coaches in player development and has worked several Division 1 collegiate skill camps.

He is married to his wife Holly. Their children; sons: Skylar (21), Zane (20), Chase (18), daughter: Kali (16), daughter in law: Marilyn (20), & grandson (aka their pride & joy) Kaden (1).
